His Holiness Pujyasri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamiji visited Sirukarumbur village near Kaveripakkam in North Arcot District, Tamilnadu on 10th and 12th May 2010.

As directed by His Holiness, an enthusiastic team of youth from the village cleared a part of the mound behind the local Siva temple. This brought to light a 10th cent fragmentary inscription recording the agreement of a few local persons to serve the temple. Besides a beautiful ancient Avudaiyar lying buried was also unearthed. The area is scattered with a number of architectural pieces and fragmentary records. Another record of 10th cent refers to an endowment which was added to another endowment and used for the upkeep of the temple. A third record also partly preserved is dated in the reign of Rajaraja chola I in his 28th year (1013 AD) recording the consecration of a metal image of Uma paramesvari, consort of Buvaneka vitankar (Nataraja) in the temple, by the villagers of Rajaraja-ceri. And yet another record of Chola period, noticed by the enthusiastic boys of the village refers to a noble Nagai kaniccan alias Irumadi chola Muvendavelan , who gifted 900 kadi of paddy which yielded 30 kalanju of gold as annual interest that was to be utilized for meeting the expenses of the temple.

The temple called Tripurantakesvara and the goddess Sundara Kamakshi amman seems to have been completely rebuilt with the stones and carvings of the early 10th cent structure and adding more carvings, sometime in 17th cent. The Amman shrine which carries some of the excellent carvings of 10th cent with the combination of later carving, present such exuberant walls, the like of which are not seen anywhere nearby. Dr R.Nagaswamy former Director of Archaeology who accompanied His Holiness, explained the details of the inscriptions. The local villagers are greatly interested in unearthing of their heritage which has suddenly taken the history of the village back by over thousand years.
